What An Animal Crossing & Pokémon Crossover Event Could Look Like
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming up on its first birthday during 2021, which overlaps with Pokémon's 25th Anniversary, marking big milestones for both series. Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out in March of 2020 for the Nintendo Switch and has offered gamers a way to enjoy a peaceful island paradise. Meanwhile Pokémon could be getting ready to release news of new games or remakes for 2021, possibly expanding the current selection of titles in the series past the already-known upcoming New Pokémon Snap. Both titles are popular among the gaming community, which is why bringing them together for a celebratory event could be an interesting crossover.
Creating a crossover event in Animal Crossing isn't a weird concept, as Animal Crossing fans are expecting a Super Mario-themed event in March that will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Super Mario series. Bringing these well-loved games together to celebrate milestones with a fun event is a great way for fans of both titles to amass cute DIY recipes and event items which can be used to show off their other favorite games in their Animal Crossing homes.
Pokémon fans have been eagerly awaiting news on what players can expect to see in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the series, as currently the developers have kept any upcoming surprises concealed. Because of this, there hasn't been any word on if Game Freak might be interested in collaborating with any other developers to create special anniversary content. The only thing that has been confirmed for 2021 so far, has been the release date for New Pokémon Snap, which will be available to fans on the Nintendo Switch April 30th.
Animal Crossing & Pokémon Should Do A Crossover Event
If Animal Crossing: New Horizons added a Pokémon themed event to the 2021 line-up, players could potentially see a number of cute additions to their games. Pikachu or Eevee could visit the island as a Mascot for the event, as they have both been used in recent years as icons for the Pokémon series. Balloon Presents could be changed to have a Poké Ball design, with different Poké Balls marking the types of gifts inside. Players could purchase a set of reactions including throwing a Poké Ball or an intense "battle face" expression. DIY themes could offer furniture with Pikachu designs, Poké Ball wallpaper, and potentially a hat like Ash's from the anime.
Many fans of Animal Crossing have already attempted to recreate Pokémon-inspired island themes, as well as making personalized clothing patterns with handmade Pokémon images. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons hasn't released everything they have planned for their second year of content, hopefully it will include more crossover events for players to enjoy.
